This nativity scene is unlike any other! Located in the historical Jindřišská Tower, there are hundreds of hand-carved figurines, animals and buildings, telling the story of the birth of baby Jesus in incredible detail. Carpenters from the town of Třešť spent countless hours etching expressions into the faces of Mary, Joseph and the Wise Men. A beautiful backdrop creates the illusion of stepping into a magical place with hills covered in moss and green foliage.
Throughout the town of Bethlehem, sheep cross over streams – if you look close enough you can even find a young boy fishing in a pond. Tiny musicians play violins, flutes and even a cello to celebrate the coming of Christ. The roads on either side of the display lead toward the center, where the nativity scene takes place with the more traditional figures, such as an angel resting above the baby Jesus, with wings outstretched.
You’ll find yourself looking over the smallest details of each carving, which spans the entire room. Plus, you can purchase many of the figurines, perfect Christmas gifts for friends and family back home!
