Meet Golem: Prague Visitor’s handy new Facebook Chatbot…
As you can imagine, we get a lot of questions sent to us through Facebook from people visiting Prague. In fact, sometimes it’s more than we can keep up with. So when a few friends suggested artificial intelligence, we were intrigued. A year later, Golem was born. Prague’s first interactive Facebook chatbot for events in Prague will give you information ranging from the weather, best places to eat and drink, events happening that night or even just for a few handy Czech phrases to help you along your way. Golem has it all, and every day he’s getting smarter
Golem was developed in collaboration with Data Science Laboratory at the Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Technical University in Prague, with special thanks going to Pavel Kordík, David Příhoda and Jakub Drdák. We’d also like to thank our friends at GoOut and Geneea company for providing their Natural Language Processing API. We would like to also thank Helen Johnson who led our team of staff writers with the initial data.
And if Golem doesn’t have all the answers, don’t worry – like a child, he will get smarter the longer he’s around – so look for more added features and interactions over time.
So, why the name Golem? The legend of Golem has an ancient history with ties to Prague. As Jewish legend has it, the brainless glob was made of clay and served his owner. But for us, we see Golem as something also with Prague origins… a robot. The term robot of course was first used by Karel Čapek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots), which was published in 1920.
